Hood River area, part of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Recreation area has a concentration of spectacular waterfalls , hikes that hug the base of Mt. Hood. Just a few urban walks are highlighted here; numerous on-line and dedicated hiking guidebooks (see more information) provide comprehensive and detailed information.
Indian Creek Trail - Hood River
Location: Three trail segments: 1) Second Street/Hazel, ends at 12th Street; 2)12th Street/ entrance Columbia Gorge Community College/dead ends private property; 3) two trailheads of Segment 3 located off Indian Creek Road: west end of Hood River Valley High School parking lot and South of the High School, just off the ball fields parking lot.
Why Go There? Three trailheads maintained by the Hood River Parks and Recreation District are available for in-town (shared use) level walks. On clear days, views of Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams across the Columbia river are breathtaking. A good choice for Hood River visitors with time limitations or not wanting an all-day hike.

Mosier Twin Tunnels - Hood River, Mosier
Location: Trailheads ($5.00 parking fee) Mark Hatfield West State Park in Hood River: Follow I-84 E to exit 64 for Mt Hood Hwy toward OR-35/White Salmon/Govt. Camp, turn left onto Old Columbia River Drive, 1.5 miles to trailhead parking; Mark Hatfield East in Mosier: I-84 take Exit #69/Mosier. Follow Historic Columbia River Highway as it curves left towards Mosier. At the base of the bridge, turn left, circle under the bridge. Drive approximately 1 mile to the trailhead parking lot on the left.
Why Go There? Once the main highway before Highway 84 was built, in recent years cleaned up, and re-opened for bicycles and walkers, the old Highway 30 is now Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail (HCRHT) an almost level trail that parallels the Columbia River between Hood River and Mosier, offers dry plateau and dramatic geologic formation views from the eastern side, and west of the twin tunnels provides overlook view of spring wildflowers, more lush greenery, 14 miles total if not using a car shuttle, or can turn around at any point for shorter distances.
