Grace Hudson Museum, Sun House - Ukiah

Why Go There? Showcases namesake artist lifeworks: Grace Carpenter Hudson (1865-1937) and her ethnologist husband, Dr. John W. Hudson (1857-1936). Changing exhibitions, public programs feature Western American art, California Indian cultures, California’s diverse North Coast region history, the works of contemporary regional artists. Significant holdings: Pomo Indian artifacts (particularly basketry), historic photographs, Grace Hudson paintings. Docent led tours of historic Sun House (1911 redwood Craftsman bungalow home), Wednesday-Sunday 12:00pm-3:00pm. Museum sits on four acre Hudson-Carpenter Park. Gift shop features hand- made jewelry, children’s items, local artists’ work, books. Modest museum entrance fee (discount seniors, students). Free first Friday of each month (participates in First Friday Art Walk); annual fall fundraiser.
